First base has always been one of the positions owners use when helping to build the foundation of the their team. In the past, it seems like it was never a problem to grab a 1B who was capable of 100 Runs/30 HRs/100 RBI.  In 2010, we only see four 1B who will produce those numbers; Pujols, Howard, Fielder and Teixeira.  Sure, there are a couple others who are on the cusp; Cabrera and Votto - even Adrian Gonzalez if he could get some protection behind him to help drive him in.

First basemen have the opportunity to help teams in average and stolen bases.  Pujols paces six 1B we see hitting .300 or higher.  We look to Garrett Jones to lead all 1B in steals with 11 from a part time roll, with Loney's total one behind at 10.

Some of our former locks are now sliding in the rankings; Berkman (12); while Morneau's (17) wrist surgery and back injuries are cause for alarm.

There are several younger players who could make an impact this year if given a chance.  Of those "sleepers", we like Justin Smoak and Kila Ka'aihue.

First basemen we advise owners to stear clear of are Chris Davis and Russell Branyan.
